Awon leads her ministry in Northeast India. She says "After spending more than two decades in student related ministry, God led me to start a ministry ‘WOMEN IN THE NATIONS’ (WINs) in 2016.
The vison for the WINs became deeper while I was helping some women in need and people with disabilities including differently Abled students in my village. This small local based work experienced led me to envision for a larger context of our society and different parts of the world, to build prayer movement for women helping women.
In many ways women everywhere in the world have faced injustice and continue to struggle with the social system. My understanding for the WINs is clearly stated from the writing of Eugene H. Paterson’s Contemplative prayer (Proverb 31). This prayer we printed to share with others to convey the ministry ‘WINs in a nutshell.
Father,
I thank you for the incredible design of woman,
who was built to soar.
Help me to help the women around me do just that.
Help me to be the wind beneath their wings,
taking them to even greater height.
May I value each and every one of them,
giving them everything they deserve,
from the pay that is due them
to be the praise …
With a desire to see what God can do through WINs, I started mobilizing small group discussions and encourage friends to share their thoughts on women’s involvement for transforming lives through Christ, especially reaching out the least reached and marginalized people in our community.
Convincingly, in the process of finalising the name for the ministry through Bible verses and inspiration from the familiar phrase "Thinking Globally, Acting Locally", that is how WOMEN IN THE NATIONS came into reality. Then much later in 2024 it was launched officially with 6 Core group members with an advisor."
