Shishyashram works in GB Road, the notorious mafia controlled red light street of New Delhi, India.
They have access to the thousands of women who are in the brothels. Here human trafficking, abductions and violence is carried out by mafia led organised crime. Any social or rescue work is viewed with suspicion and interference in the activities of traffickers and is dangerous.
They remain in GB Road as a light in darkness, helping the women in dire needs through witnessing, and material help.
They also help in a small way women, in their rescue and transport to reach their destinations in far away places of Nepal or India, also sheltering them in safe houses.
There is a rented library in the street and workers visit the brothels regularly to talk to the women affected. We carry out activities like distribution of literature when possible, and during national holidays there are opportunities to distribute food material to needy women.
