God Opportunities |
|
From time to time we get to hear about particular one off needs from our partners or from other people who one or more trustees know - needs which touch our hearts. As though God is saying to us "I want this to go ahead but it needs some resources". We call these God Opportunities (or GO projects), and this page tells you about some of these.
When such an opportunity arises trustees share the information with each other and sometimes it is so obvious that little or no debate is necessary - the one important principle in all major decisions of AMEN trustees is that we are in complete unity in believing that something is what God wants AMEN to be doing.
We hope that you will be encouraged and excited as you read about some of the GO projects

A new home for gypsies in Romania (October 2011 update)
Dave McGuire is an Englishman who God called to Romania in 1996. David is a builder by profession and his ministry is to build houses for the very poorest of Romanian society. God has blessed this ministry amazingly.
Over the past years Dave and many helpers and supporters from across the world have built over 100 small houses and repaired many existing huts as well. Working with the local authorities and churches Romanian gypsy people see the love of God in action in a very meaningful way. Dave says that he does not know how the money comes in - as and when there is a need highlighted it just arrives! This is a clear sign that God's heart is in this work.
Two weeks ago a recently completed family home burnt down as a result of an accident - thank God that all the people were safe. But as winter approaches the only thing the family of 6 had to live in was a tent made of plastic sheets, blankets, and bits of carpet (see left hand pictures). Together with the charity Care 4 Romania, AMEN has been able to raise over £1500 in two weeks to enable David and his team to build a new home. The family now have a new brick byuilt home with a wood burning fire and are praising God for His goodness and thanking Dave and AMEN for their generosity. If you want to help with Dave's work you can give by cheque to AMEN, 79 North Road, Dartford, Kent DA1 2ND or donate online.

Helping the victims of the typhoons which hit the Philippines (October 2010)
Joe
Gonzales of SIKATT writes "Although
it’s been a week already since the two typhoons hit the Philippines,
recovery is very difficult for the badly hit places.
Many are still in need of food, clothing and shelter.
SIKATT as a ministry has always taken the initiative to extend
assistance to those who are affected, like what it had done after
Typhoon Ondoy hit the Philippines.
So far we have given around fifty grocery packs to different
families, thirty water filters, and ten appliances like rice cooker, gas
stove and electric fans. These
benefited our brethren and even new believers who were reached by the
ministry. We
would like to provide relief by giving out groceries, restore the
victims’ confidence and faith by giving free repair for their damaged
appliances and aid them to recover from trauma through counselling."
Touched by compassion AMEN have sent Joe £500 plus 20 water filters to assist SIKATT in their ministry to those in need. If you want to help you can give by cheque to AMEN, 79 North Road, Dartford, Kent DA1 2ND or donate online.

Helping the victims of the Pakistan Floods (September 2010)
AMEN Trustees were touched by the plight of people in Pakistan, but were particularly concerned at reports of Christians getting very little of the government support which was available.
We decided that this was a God opportunity to show love to our brothers and sisters and contacted our partner Edwin. His responded immediately "I am overjoyed to receive this gift - I was very sad that we could not see any way that we could do anything. But our Lord is great. He knows our hearts and our feelings. May God bless you all at AMEN".

Helping the Elion Ministries in Serbia (September 2010)
Sasko and Ira run Elion Media Ministries in Serbia, producing and dubbing and subtitling Christian films for use by churches and other Christian organisations. This couple have been friends of AMEN Trustees for some time.
In August they had several films ready to copy and it became clear that they needed to have a more professional system for doing this than copying on a PC - and that the cost of having videos produced commercially was prohibitive. The potential for use of video media in Balkans in enormous - these people are in the right place at a strategic time.
AMEN Trustees felt that this was a real God Opportunity and were able to provide Sasko and Ira with a professional DVD Duplicator and a disc printer.

Helping the Serbian Bible College (July 2010 update)
Staff and students from the Bible College work with local children and local organisations. Through the kind help of Kit-Aid and Ben (a supporter of AMEN) we were able to send out several boxes of sports kit.
Sladjan wrote: "We have distributed the sports equipment to the Roma children in our area, which they will be using at tournaments and regularly returning to the person in charge, after using it. They were very happy when they received it. Several national daily newspapers wrote about this action that HUB organized, and I have also had an opportunity to address children and explain where the equipment came from and why it was given to them. This is a great “bridge” we have made with them, and all those very poor and marginalized children, who are in spite of that willing to achieve something more. "
The picture on the left shows two of the children showing off their kits!

Helping the Serbian Bible College (May 2010 update)
On a visit to our partners HUB (Bible College) in Serbia we found that they were really being badly affected by the unreliability of the few relatively old computers which they had at the college.
AMEN Trustees felt that this was a God Opportunity and were able to bring together enough funds for HUB to purchase 8 refurbished computers and the necessary software.
The picture on the left shows the Director of HUB, Sladjan, with the first delivery. It is so good to be able to make a difference!

Refurbishing an Orphanage near Mumbai (May 2010)
Purnata Bhavan (House of Wholeness) consists of four houses near Mumbai which provide Christian love and care and accommodation for children with HIV/AIDs. These homes are overseen by Oasis India who lead prayers and worship with the children.
Currently 38 children are being cared for, but the houses are in urgent need of maintenance. £4000 has been donated to do exterior maintenance, but £3750 is needed to do work inside the houses. AMEN trustees visited this project and were impressed by the care and love shown to these children. It touched our hearts.
Amazingly, for some time AMEN has had almost exactly that sum of money in a special fund for "Orphanage Buildings" - and each time we looked at spending it we felt that God had asked us to hold on.
Obviously God had Purnata Bhavan in mind! We are delighted we were able to GO ahead! Click here for more details

Helping Pakistan Christians (October 2009 update)
Many readers of this site will have heard of the serious and unjustified attacks on Christians in parts of Pakistan in 2009.
When we heard of this we felt as trustees that we should provide some relief and have donated £500 to assist many families affected. Click here to read about the situation in Korian and Gojra.
Although the recent news is encouraging we would ask you to continue to pray for these Christian brothers and sisters in such distress at this time.

Providing clean water to villages in Philippines (August 2009)
Pastor Winston Pinzon and his colleagues from Mission Ministries Philippines are starting churches in three villages outside Manila where the water supplies are very bad. We heard about this at the same time as a church was looking to support a project to bring clean water to people somewhere. God had linked these two opportunities together.
The outcome - enough money has been raised to meet the needs of the three villages initially highlighted and there is enough for several more villages. The people in those villages have been amazed at seeing God's love in action! Click here for details
